terrorism proof architecture
Cut to 2007,
Date: 11 th September 2007
Venue: Department of Architecture, Building Construction Class
Ironical that we were being taught tall structure construction on the fateful day and the second example to be given by the teacher was "The Twin Towers", which according to him "were sadly destroyed by Osama Bin Laden".
What was being taught were the intricacies of a high rise building, and how it can be designed in a way that it is safe for its users. Calculation of the dead loads, live load, wind pressure, earthquake resistivity.... All these words sent my brain hunting for a way in which we can make our buildings Terrorism Proof. And after thinking for two days and a night i realized that there is no way we can make them foolproof.
So, does that mean there is no way out. And, does that mean that in spite of the technological heights we have attained, or at least we claim that we have attained, we still cannot guarantee our existence.
Tall claims are made by scientists and researchers about the new things that are developed everyday, but are they of any real use when you are not really sure whether you will survive terrorism that is claiming unaccounted number of lives everyday. We read everyday (thanks to the hyperactive media) about the blasts and other such activities by various terrorist groups all over the world everyday but did any of those victims ever think about their fate. All of us think that such mishaps can only happen to others and will never affect us.
But the truth is something else. Just like all the people that were present in the ill fated flight 11, unaware of what future had in store for them, we have no control over our future.

state of disbelief
People, sometimes in your life, in some way or the other make you feel like you are the best person alive and there could be no one better. You feel like you are on top of the world but is it actually true?? Are you the perfect person that they claim you are?? Or is it just a lie, just a fake reassurance to make you feel happy or to make you do what you did to get that first helping of praise.
No matter where it comes from and why it comes, it brings with it a lot of self confidence, pride, and an assurance that you really are great... And ultimately does turn you into a better person!!!!!!!!
